Green Burials

Newcastle Upon Tyne-20150730-01578As well as offering traditional religious memorials for burials in churchyards or cemeteries, we now supply memorials to be used in woodland burials, and green burial sites around the United Kingdom.

We have the use of a green burial site located in Rowley at Castleside, which has its own chapel. It’s a peaceful and tranquil place, with lovely views across the valleys in Derwentside, and is home to a number of different species of birds and other wildlife, such as butterflies, foxes, rabbits, badgers, hares, and the occasional deer. The site is owned by local man Mr. Keith Watson, who has worked tirelessly to perfect the area. It has a car park, and all other facilities.

The Chapel View Green Field Burial Ground is fully consecrated by Reverend K Hopper in 2014 according to the rites and traditions of the Church. This means we can offer burials for all religions, and non-religious people. We offer a complete range of Islamic, and other religious memorials, which include a selection of prayers and passages from the chosen religious book. We also offer Islamic and other religious burial services, through our partner company, Gateshead and Felling Funeral Directors, please contact us on 0191 4695442 or 07764789001 for more details.

The site is located on a rural bus service with a scheduled stopping point at Chapel View. This service leaves from Consett Bus Station, where there are regular routes from all over the North East, including Durham, Newcastle, Hexham and Weardale. The site at Rowley is also easily accessible by car, located in the heart of the countryside on Miller’s Hill Lane, just off the A68.

The memorials planted here are decorative six inch plaques, and other than the green site at Rowley, we have placed a number in scenic locations, such as Windermere in the Lake District, around the Glens of the Scottish Highlands. We have also exported these memorials around the world, to places including Papua New Guinea, Texas, and Uganda.

A green burial, including permission to place the plaque on the site, is only £750.
